60 years ago, the Hungarian population rebelled against foreign domination and dictatorship. This is celebrated in Budapest, for the liberal opposition cynicism. For them, Orbán is a new dictator.

In Hungary the anti-Soviet popular uprising is thought. 60 years ago, on 23 October 1956, parts of the Hungarian population had begun a revolt against the Stalinist rule. It was beaten by Soviet troops almost two weeks later.

Several thousand supporters of the right-wing national government of Prime Minister Victor Orbán appeared for the official ceremony in front of the parliament. Hundreds of supporters of the opposition gathered at the edges of the parliament square and whistled out the government and called “dictator! Dictator

Several opposition parties had asked their supporters to come to the memorial and to sack Orbán. The government had responded with a clear warning. Against “paid provocrators”, which could disturb the event, the police planned protection measures because of “terror danger”.

Victor Orbán remains faithful

In his speech, Orbán defended his harsh foreclosure policy against refugees. He scourged EU Europe to ensure that it always went the more comfortable way: “Instead of own children, it chooses migrants instead of laboring speculation,” he said. There were also whistles for Orbán’s prestige, Polish President Andrzej Duda. The Polish state emphasized that Hungary and Poland were states based on the Christian foundation of Europe and now united in a free Europe.

After the end of World War II, Hungary belonged to the Soviet sphere of influence in 1945 and was a communist dictatorship. After a peaceful start of the popular uprising against the regime in October 1956 the situation escalated. The protest of the Hungarians against foreign domination and dictatorship was sickened by Russian tanks.
