Fewer scholarships for women and immigrants
The decision, who receives a scholarship in Germany and who does not, is not dependent solely on the grade. This, at any rate, suggests a new study. The gender and the origin are also important.
Who gets a scholarship in Germany? This is not necessarily only dependent on the notes, but also on the sex, the origin and the educational background of the parents. This in any case suggests a new study of the Internet portal “MyStipendium” together with Stiftung Mercator, which was attended by almost 28,000 students and high school graduates.
According to him, 20 per cent fewer women receive funding from gifted sponsors. This is partly due to the fact that fewer women than men apply for a scholarship. However female applicants are also on average less successful – despite the average better grades.
